A Ypsilanti crew since 2007
We have been pouring and repairing concrete in Ypsilanti since 2007. The shop is on Tamarack Lane. Crews run from there into Ann Arbor, Canton, Novi, Dexter, Jackson, Belleville, and the other cities listed on this site. We are not a national franchise.
The neighborhoods we know best sit on the same clay-loam soils as the parks along the river: Riverside Park, Waterworks Park, Prospect Park, and Frog Island. Those soils hold water. Thin slabs without air-entrained mix or a drained base scale and heave after a few winters. That is the problem we design against on every driveway and walk.
Many new driveways and public walks need a permit. The City of Ypsilanti Permit Center is the hub-city starting point. Other cities have their own building departments. We work to the permit they issue.
What we pour
Residential work is usually a driveway, walk, patio, garage floor, or pool deck. Commercial work is usually a parking lot, pad, or curb layout. The mix and the joints change with the load. The process does not: look at drainage, rebuild the base if it failed, form, pour, finish, and protect the cure.
Decorative work (stamp and stain) is the same crew, a different finish. A pattern still has to drain and survive winter. We will not sell a patio that sits in a puddle.
How a job runs
Send the city, the surface, and whether you want repair or replacement. Photos help. A site plan or city comment letter helps more. We walk the job when the base is unknown. Prices from a photo alone are guesses, and we will say so.
Matt works with the crew. That is in the reviews already on this page, not a claim we added. Updates, a clean site, and a quote that does not hide extra yardage after the forms are set are the habits clients mention. We keep those habits because a driveway is something you look at every day.
Exterior pours run from spring thaw through late fall. Interior garage slabs can often run when the outside work is paused. Midwinter exterior placements are rare because the ground and the mix have to stay in a safe temperature band. We will move a pour day rather than freeze a slab overnight.
Why local concrete fails here
Southeast Michigan winters push water into pores and then freeze it. Salt from roads and walks speeds surface damage. Clay soils hold water against the underside of a slab. That combination is why a ten-year-old drive in Ypsilanti can look far older.
We specify air-entrained concrete for exterior work, enough thickness for the load, a compacted aggregate base that drains, and joints tooled or sawed on time. Those four things hold a Michigan driveway. A brand name on a bag does not.
Service area
Ypsilanti is the hub. If your address is on a city page on this site, we can usually schedule a look. City pages are for town-name searches. Service pages are for job-type searches. If your town is missing, ask. Sometimes it is a nearby page away. Sometimes it is outside our radius. We will not list cities we do not actually drive to.

What good” looks like when we leave
A finished driveway should shed water away from the garage and the house, hold a straight joint line, and not pond at the apron. A walk should be even at the door and at the city walk. A lot should drain to the inlet you agreed on, not to a neighbor’s slab. Those are the checks we walk before we leave. If something is off, we say so on the spot.
Cure is part of the job. Walking too early and driving too early are the two ways a good pour gets ruined. We will give you the day you can walk and the day you can park. Hot, dry, or cold weather changes those numbers. We do not use one calendar for every month.
Repair versus replacement
Repair is the right call when the base is still doing its job and the failure is local: one sunken panel, a failed joint, a spall that has not reached the whole slab. Replacement is the right call when the base is pumping mud, the slab has lost its shape, or the joints have already failed in a pattern that will keep spreading. We would rather lose a replacement bid than pour a patch that fails next winter.
If you are comparing bids, ask each contractor about air entrainment, base thickness, joint spacing, and who pulls the permit. Those four answers matter more than a postcard price. We will answer them on the visit.
How to start
Call (734) 323-8882, use the contact form, or email help@gbcement.com. Tell us the city, the surface (driveway, walk, lot, garage), and whether you want repair or replacement. If you have a target week, say that too. We will confirm whether we can look at the job and what we need from you for a permit if Ypsilanti or another city requires one.
Keep traffic off until we say. Do not salt a new exterior slab in its first winter if we told you to wait. Sealer is a separate conversation; not every slab needs it on day one.
